How to Prepare For Your First Hot Yoga Or Pilates Class

Do I need to book?

No. You just show up any time you want to practice. If you’re new, come to the studio at least 15 minutes before class to get set up and complete your registration form.

I’ve never done yoga/ Pilates before. Will I be able to do it?

Our hot yoga and Pilates classes are designed to be suitable for all levels of experience including complete beginners. Remember, it’s about the journey, not the destination. Don’t worry about how ‘perfectly’ you do the postures. It’s the transformations that you create in your body and mind through your practice that count.

Can I eat or drink before class?

Drink plenty of water. You should always drink around 2 liters of water a day. On the days you practice hot yoga or Pilates, try to drink twice that amount. Exercising on a full stomach is not recommended, so try to leave 2 to 3 hours between eating and a hot class.

Yoga Class Etiquette

The yoga room is a quiet space, so please save your conversations for when you are hanging out in the chill-out area after class. In between the postures try to stay as still as possible. This is tricky to begin with and requires a lot of concentration but keep trying, as it adds another dimension to your practice which is really powerful. Remember that your sweat is your body’s cooling mechanism so try to avoid wiping it away. No hand towels in class please.

Tips for the class

Take it easy for your first few class. Don’t expect to be able to do everything during the first session and take breaks when you need to. Anytime in class that you are struggling, bring your attention to your breathing and slow it down. Pay special attention to the breathing techniques for the class. This is key to mastering your practice.

What do I need to bring?

Your yoga clothes, two towels, water and a plastic bag to put your wet things in afterwards. Yoga mats and towels are available to hire from the studio for £1 each or to purchase. We also sell bottles of water for £1.50.

Are hot yoga and Pilates aerobic?

Yes our hot yoga classes are a form of aerobic exercize. Hot Pilates is performed in the format of Hight Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).  Great for fat burn!

Can I practice if I am pregnant?

When pregnant, it is best not to attempt any new form of exercise. However, if you have been practicing hot yoga or Pilates regularly for at least one year, you can continue your practice, after your first trimester. Performing modified version of some of the postures. Please speak to your instructor for further advice about practicing whilst pregnant.

How to get to the studio


Our studio is located right opposite Langside College just down from the old Victoria Infirmary on Battlefield Road.

Buses which pass the studio are 34A, 34, 3, 4, 5, 6, 17 and 90. More bus route info

Regular train services run from Central Station and a variety of South Side locations.  Mount Florida is five minutes walk and Langside, Crosshill and Cathcart are also within 15 minutes walk of our studio. Scot Rail

We are 2.5 miles from the City Centre with good access to the M74, M77 and M8. There is on-street parking in side streets free at anytime and free on the main road from 5pm. 

But I'm really unfit!

Don’t worry we will get you fit. To begin, just take it really easy. Sit down when you need to, and take plenty of breaks. Our friendly staff will talk you through everything that you need to do, keep you motivated and give you lots of encouragement.

What should I wear?

Women wear sports tops and either leggings or shorts. Men wear shorts, tops are optional. Light fabrics such as Lycra are ideal – cotton is bulky and restricts movement when wet. Avoid big baggy clothing as well.

Are hot yoga and pilates a cardiovascular workout?

Oh yes, you will feel your heart rate go right up during a hot yoga  or Pilates class, giving you a really satisfying work-out.

But I am not flexible!

Perfect! This Yoga is for you! Yoga is not about how flexible you are, but about stretching your body and spine in all directions. All that matters is that you try the right way, go to your personal limit and you will get 100% benefit! With the heat and regular practice your flexibility (and strength) will increase dramatically.
